India Alliance approves the name of Sudarshan Reddy, he will be the Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition.
Who Is Sudarshan Reddy:
Vice Presidential Election 2025 has now become the battlefield of Tamil Nadu politics. NDA has fielded Maharashtra Governor and BJP veteran CP Radhakrishnan, who belongs to the OBC Gounder (Kongu Vellalar) community.
At the same time, after deep brainstorming, the opposition alliance INDIA Block chose Sudarshan Reddy as its candidate.
The name of retired judge Bala Krishna Sudarshan Reddy has been announced on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) by India Alliance for the post of Vice President. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge gave this information in a press conference.

Former Supreme Court judge and Goa Lokayukta B. Sudarshan Reddy was born in Andhra Pradesh in 1946. He comes from a farmer family. He did his schooling in Hyderabad and received a law degree from Osmania University in 1971.
Bala Krishna Sudarshan Reddy was enrolled as an advocate in the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council in Hyderabad on December 27, 1971. He has practiced in writ and civil cases in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Kharge announced the name:
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the name of B Sudarshan Reddy for the post of Vice President in a meeting with the allies of the India Alliance. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said, "B. Sudarshan Reddy is one of the most distinguished and progressive jurists of India. He has had a long and distinguished legal career, including work as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court and a judge of the Supreme Court.
Kharge further said, Reddy has been a consistent and courageous champion of social, economic and political justice. He is a poor man and if you read many judgments, you will know how he sided with the poor people and also protected the Constitution and fundamental rights."
Why was B Sudarshan Reddy chosen
The Independent Expert Working Group (IEWG) appointed by the Telangana government after the caste census was headed by former Supreme Court judge B Sudarshan Reddy. This committee submitted its 300-page report to the state government. The group described the methodology of the Socio-Economic, Education, Employment, Political and Caste (EPC) survey conducted by the Congress government as scientific, authentic and reliable and said that it would become a model for the country.
